FIXTURE: Sussex Div 3
HOME TEAM: Middleton Men's 2s. 0
AWAY TEAM: Lewes Men's 5s. 0
On Saturday the Men's 5s, plagued with injuries, travelled with 12 players for the early slot Away vs Middleton 2s at Littlehampton Academy.
The Men in Green passed the ball well and created the better chances with a couple of great opportunities to win the game saved by Middleton's usual 1st team goalkeeper, however it was Middleton who came closest to winning this encounter with a goal-bound shot deflected on to the Lewes post and scrambled away.
Goalkeeper Simon Bullmore had a relatively quiet game thanks to the hard-to-beat Lewes defence marshalled by Tom Fewster, but when the home-side were 'given' a couple of questionable penalty corners at the end of each half, Bullmore pulled saves out of his locker to ensure his clean sheet remained intact.
At the other end Lewes were disappointed not to go in front with a penalty flick when Mike Fuller was deliberately brought down from behind whilst dribbling into the Middleton D. Unfortunately for Lewes, after some conferring, it was decided that neither umpire had witnessed the debacle and a 16 was awarded to the defence.
After the game Lewes skipper Malcolm Wain said: "We fully deserved that point and despite 'those decisions' it was a good game and a fair result plus we kept a clean sheet away from home".
MOM - Reza Azimi for epitomising the 5s 'defend together go forward together' mantra.
Next week the 5s are back at Home in the 4.30 slot vs Crowborough 2.
