'Hard to Beat' Mens 5s extend unbeaten lead as Hugh Porter scores a brace for 2nd week running.

FIXTURE: Sussex Div 4
HOME TEAM: Crawley Men's 4s 1
AWAY TEAM: Lewes Men's 5s 3 (Porter 2, Rolph)

On Saturday Lewes 5's travelled to Crawley looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

Crawley 4's had the better of the early play but were unable to breach the solid Lewes defence until an unfortunate deflection from a penalty corner gave the home team a 1-0 lead. Behind for the second week running, the Men in Green once again showed good character and soon equalised through Hugh Porter's superb low drive finish, the final pass coming from Ben Wood following one of his trademark banana runs.

Lewes started the second half as strong as they finished the first and after 8 minutes Toby Rolph gave the 5's a deserved lead converting a penalty corner powerfully from the top of the D. A few minutes later and the lead was increased to 3-1 when Hugh Porter found the bottom corner again after some good play from the 5's midfield.

The Lewes defense were marshalled brilliantly by Toby Rolph following the 'Hard to Beat' mantra in defence and attacking 'with intent' although it seemed in the second half that the Crawley keeper used every part of his body to prevent Lewes from adding to their lead.

After the game Crawley's Captain said "We started off well but at about 25minutes Lewes were stronger in midfield and we couldn't get into the Lewes D after that"

The table topping 5's now head into a key part of their season facing the other 3 teams in the top 4, but with every member of the 5's continuously working hard for the collective good they have every chance of extending their unbeaten run.
