FIXTURE: Sussex Div 4
HOME TEAM: Brighton & Hove Men's 8s 0
AWAY TEAM: Lewes Men's 5s 2 (Fuller, Wain)
Always a closely fought game between these two sides, the first half was played out in midfield with occasional chances saved at either end in weather that moved from brilliant autumnal sunshine through driving rain to heavy hail.
The game erupted in the second half when a Brighton attack was turned over and Toby Rolph sent a long, accurate hit to Malcolm Wain on the half-way line. With the home-side overloaded, the skipper passed to Philip Brown who carved through the Brighton defence and finished his run with a neat pass in front of goal to Steve Fuller who swept home his first of the season.
Brighton looked to hit back immediately with a high press culminating in a strike that hit the Lewes post followed by a well worked penalty corner confidently saved by Stan Hughes the Lewes U16 goalkeeper who produced another excellent performance.
The home-side continued to pile on the pressure looking for an equaliser but they could not break down the Lewes defence of Alan Forster, Mark Pearson, James Hall and Simon (he was everywhere) Murray.
With 10 minutes left on the clock, Lewes countered again and extended their advantage when Dave Cooke hammered a diagonal ball into the Brighton 'D' that was slotted bottom left under the advancing keeper by Malcolm Wain on his return from injury.
Lewes Men's 5s now have a two week break before facing Crowborough Men's 3s at Southdown Club on Saturday 11th.
