Lewes Under 10s Girls played with a real spirit.
The girls were off to a slow start playing at the regional Hockey finals at Charter House School against Guildford who demonstrated some really silky skills but Lewes only lost 0 - 2. Despite having all the possession the girls then lost 0 - 1 to East Grinstead. Next, the girls encountered Marden and went one goal down but pulled it back with some lovely passing movements and a fine goal by Bea 1 - 1.
Finally a win for the girls who did not give up running despite going one goal down but replied with three lovely goals after some sustained pressure from four short corners scoring two of the goals from the corners by Bea and Minnie and the other in open play from Alicia. Next up for the girls was Sevenoaks who narrowly beat the girls 0 - 1. The girls ran themselves ragged and never gave up.
Our next match was for the third/fourth playoffs place against East Grinstead. The girls were just amazing in this game, they dominated and hit the post but the ball just would not go in. I am not sure if EG had one attack on our goal and sadly it ended 0 - 0, unfortunately, the girls had to play in a penalty (flick) shootout and they lost.
A cruel way to end their journey but what an adventure it was for all of them including all the girls who could not play today but have helped and supported this team to get to the Regional Finals. A massive big thank you to Millie, Greta, River, Nel, Ivy, Isabel, Ottiie.
We can not achieve any of this without the support of all the lovely parents who have to suffer the highs and the lows. Drive all over the place, feed, water your lovely daughters and keep smiling through gritted teeth.
I just wanted to say a big massive thank you to Sasha, Gemma, and Sharon for all they brought to the party all three were complete stars and helped me and the team achieve 4th place in the regional finals. Everything is possible when you work together as a team and everyone did that with a big smile on their face. Thank you, everyone!!!!!!!
