The u12 Lewes boys had been plagued with illness and unavailability this week, but, bolstered by a strong u10 contingent they were just about able to field 11. And what an 11 they proved to be! The first quarter was played pretty much with both teams in the middle of the field, chasing every ball and without structure or width. Then, after a team talk from Coach Lou Webster and Assistant Coach Amany Rus, the boys found the match intelligence that they had shown during their last league matches and started to play cohesively, using the whole pitch. They put together some great attacking moves and, with some instruction after each quarter, they improved incrementally.
All the boys played such fantastic hockey and everyone played their part in the team, without any individual showboating. Their goals were team efforts and all the boys should be very proud of their performance, particularly the younger ones, many of whom had never played full pitch hockey before.
Thanks go to Brighton who were an extremely friendly and courteous bunch, both players and adults, on and off the pitch.
