Two draws and two loses against older and bigger competition not a fair reflection of team's performance

This early-season mini tournament of 7-a-side friendly games against Brighton and Eastbourne U12 teams was a great opportunity for each of the Lewes U12 boys to try several different positions on the pitch during the course of the morning, and not focus solely on the scoreline.

Only goalie Sam Harrop stayed in place throughout, producing more of the awesome skills that helped bring the Under 10's such success last season.

Other notable showings came from Will Ward in his first appearance for Lewes, and Finlay Armstrong who is new to hockey but played like a pro. Ben Fuller also grabbed the limelight as he slapped home a classy goal within seconds of running on as sub.

Two draws and two defeats were not a fair reflection of the boys’ dominance in some of these games, or of the chances that - on another day - might well have gone in. The draw with Brighton’s much older team of 11 and 12 year olds did them particular credit.
