After weeks of training and a good show at Brighton HC, the Lewes under 12s started the big build up to the big one at Eastbourne.

League

With a full compliment of players and a lot of confidence discovered at Brighton a week ago the day began with a comfortable 2:0 win over Burgess Hill.
More confidence in the tank led to wins over Eastbourne, East Grinstead and a draw with Horsham with great team performance and individual application from all.
Star players are hard to focus on but stalwart in mid field and up front Olley Ingham came away with goals and some great distribution, Olive Loader solid in defence with new boy Toby Hutchinson making some important tackles
Lewes were able to get the ball out wide and maintain possession over all opposition denying them all goal scoring opportunities.
Finishing the group with 2:0 over EG 1 put the cherry on the Cake with excellent goals from Oliver Ingham and a screamer from Oliver Amos into the roof of the net !!!
One important fact was that no one had managed to score a goal against Lewes throughout the first round with Billy Palmer keeping yet another clean sheet.

Semi final
Lewes came up against a stalwart Horsham side and no goals were scored at ether end.
Next chapter was a penalty flick barrage which none of the boys had experienced before.
Highlights were Billy Palmer making some quality saves and Oliver Loader putting the first flick high into the top right corner which any international player would dream of.
The score was 2:2 at he end of the first barrage meaning sudden death !!!
Billy Palmer faced the first flick and saved !!!
Winning the route to the final was Ben Battle with a fine flick low to the keepers left, Game over !!!

The Final
Lewes of course were to meet the might of the Eastbourne A team which was a daunting task.
A team full of county players was one step too far for the valiant Lewes A side to cope with.
A fighting performance brought to account some fine defensive work from all including two top class saves from Billy Palmer down low to his right.
This game as it was played at a furious pace and seemed over in a very short period.
Eastbourne forced a fighting 2:0 victory over a valiant Lewes side to take the cup.

With no exceptions all boys gave maximum effort on Sunday and came of age.

Lewes under 12 boys have never got into a semi final :DID THAT !!!

Lewes under 12 boys have never got into a final :DID THAT !!!

This was a performance of epic proportion and it needs to be noted that Martin Combs and Steve Loader have coached these boys into a match winning unit who have proved they have the ability to go on to greater things. Lewes Hockey Club take note please.
