Warm weather introduces new stars to tournament hockey and brings some familiar faces out from hockey hibernation...

Another first for Lewes Hockey Club, this time in the shape of their inaugural Back to Hockey tournament played in glorious weather at the Southdown Sports Club in Lewes.

The afternoon saw six mixed teams from around the county compete against each other across five rounds of fixtures; with eventual winners Team Becky, led by local lass Becky Wycherley.
A further two sides from Lewes, two from East Grinstead and one from Burgess Hill / St Francis Haywards Heath, made up the entries all playing excellent hockey and in a fantastic spirit.

Club Press Officer Zoe Richards, and mini hockey star Alex Rus ran the timer and score board ensuring the games all ran to time and allowing the players and umpires to focus on playing their part.

Also, mention must go out to local goal-keepers Charlie “Schmeichel” Palmer and Simon “the wall” Bullmore who not only played all afternoon in their kit but also umpired and provided coaching.

The afternoon was rounded off with the visit of Lewes Mayor Cllr Dr. Graham Mayhew for the final round of fixtures, who then presented Team Becky and runners up East Grinstead, with their medals and trophy.

A huge thank you to all those who helped out and took part to make the afternoon such a success.

Open club training sessions continue at the Southdown Sports Club on Tuesday evenings in July from 19:15 to 21:00. For information please contact Peter Thomas on development@leweshc.com
