Great promise shown at Eastbourne

Sunday saw Lewes Hockey club send 60 children to Eastbourne for the annual Ron Easton 7-a-side tournament. On a cold blustery morning the two girls U12 teams played out their leagues to each finish second and face each other in the 3rd / 4th place playoff which finished with a nil-nil draw so 3rd place for each. A notable performance from Isobel Harding who single handedly put 6 goals past East Grinstead with other goal scorers being Sophie Nurse, Isabel Loader, Beth Maguire and Martha Hampel.

The U12 boys showed how far they had come since the Crowborough tournament at the beginning of the season where they failed to score a single goal. This time they netted 5! – winning 2, losing 2 and drawing 1. A great team effort with a really promising bunch of lads.

The U10 boys won one of their matches with a brace of spectacular goals from Theo Hall, sure to be a future 1st XI player. The U10 girls fielded 2 teams in the tournament though were not in medal contention.

Notable credit must go to the children who, having recently graduated to under 16 hockey themselves were pitchside coaching and umpiring their younger counterparts including Oliver Loader, Amany Rus, Hannah Williams, Lucy Petit, Rosie Hall and Kate Brown.
