Lewes Lions vs Crawley: Sussex Development League
Result 2-2
Lewes Scorers Oli Amos & Drew Wain
It was a spectacularly sunny Saturday as Lewes' early pressure was soaked up by Crawley who then broke after 5 minutes with 2 forwards storming into the 'D" and only the goalie to beat, however Billy Palmer in the pads was ready for them, stepped forward and smothered the ball before a pass could be made. Lewes continued the pressure through the experienced midfield of Sam Webster, Jamie Cooke and Charlie Kingsbury. 20 minutes in and the mounting pressure saw a shot from Jamie Cooke at an acute angle pinging off the post. After 24 minutes Lewes scored with another Jamie Cooke cross sliced into the roof by Oli Amos on the far post.
Goal keeper Billy Palmer was called to action again for another save against 2 forwards this time the Crawley attackers putting the shot wide.
On 29 minutes Lewes' short corner initial shot was saved and Drew Wain, quick on his feet, flicked the ball over the floundering keeper to make it a well deserved 2-0 lead going into half time.
Lewes came out sleepily for the 2nd half and Crawley scored inside 2 minutes from a controversial reverse stick undercut. But 3 minutes later Crawley score a 2nd goal from quick reactions shooting from a rebound off the pads.
Lewes defence then woke up and stalwarts Oli Loader and surprise finding Leon Keating shored up the defensive holes.
Numerous 2nd half short corners went without even a shot on goal and Lewes' domination of the open play did not lead to any further goals.
