Archie Sherwood scored the all important goal to put the Lions into the 2nd round of the Sussex u16 cup. Lewes having taken a commanding lead relaxed to allow Crawley to score 2 2nd half goals to put the match into extra time. Lewes started the game well with captain Sam Worlidge dominating the midfield supported by Charlie Kingsbury and The energetic Jamie Cook. Several chances went begging before a flowing move started at right back by Sam Webster resulted in Lewes moving the ball at pace between several players with Sam Worledge breaking into the d for an initial shot saved by the Crawley Goal keeper but rebounded to Archie who made no mistake. Both Drew Wian on the left wing and Jack Bages produced other chances until Drew well positioned at the far pat slotted in the second following Jamie's Cooks interception and cut back from the back line.
Lewes rather rested on their laurels and let Crawley back into the game and resolute defending from Harrry Davenport, Joe Rideout and young Ollie Loader kept them at bay. Billie Palmer had another very assured game in goal dealing easily with shots from distance and one on ones. However he was beaten by 2 deflected shots through a crowed defence.
So the Lewes crowd had to continue to brave the cold as the game went to golden goal. Lewes started extra time with great unity and determination and their commitment paid off as Archie pounced on a lose ball to score the winner.
