Lewes were forced to play a very defensive game but, despite this, matched each goal scored by the home side with one of their own.
Again, with 4 key players missing due to a certain coming of age of one of the team members, Lewes called on the promising Keeping skills of young Roxy Fawssett to remain vigilant between the sticks. And she didn’t disappoint, making many great saves including tipping one shot over the cross bar.
Lewes’ first goal came soon after Eastbourne’s first, from a great piece of attacking play. The ball was then slipped to Zoe Richards in the D who wrong footed a player and crossed it hard to a waiting Iris Jackson on the P spot. Jackson timed her shot perfectly to hit it home. Eastbourne retaliated but Lewes came straight back with a goal from Milli Fawssett after a short corner didn’t quite go to plan.
After the break Eastbourne continued to pressure Lewes to play defensively, leaving the forwards isolated. However, that didn’t stop winger Amany Rus making some lightening solo runs and a few impressive shots on target. One of which resulted in the final penalty corner minutes before the whistle. Fawssett struck the ball cleanly and gave Lewes a deserved share of the points.
The ladies play their penultimate game of the season at home on Saturday at 4.30pm.
