The EG youngsters marked tightly and made some quick breaks but the Lewes near-veteran side (ably aided by teenager Amany Rus), stood their ground and defended doggedly and accurately with not one penalty corner awarded against them. Zoe Richards scored Lewes’ first with a penalty spot sweep-in supplied by a text book by-line push from Julia ‘Nipps’ Cunningham and a half time score line of 1-1 left everything to play for.
In the second half, incidental aerial strikes were in abundance as balls hit players and left the grounds entirely. Lewes’ second and the equaliser came from a resounding strike from defender Claudine ‘Cloddy’ Love after a blistering run. Lewes were left feeling as if they could have done more but were relieved to have earned a point and avoided hospitalisation.
