The home side made a promising start, passing the ball well and testing the keeper early. They won a number of short corners in the first half and had many shots on target but the Middleton keeper kept the ball out, and the opposition looked dangerous on the counter-attack.
Midway through the 1st half, after a goalmouth tussle, Lewes finally found the backboard with a goal from Amy Boyse.
Middleton came out strongly in the 2nd half, and as Lewes tired, the game opened up and their defence was tested. However, they stayed strong and denied the visitors from getting on the scoresheet.
Kerry Fitzpatrick and her legendary jabbing were outstanding in defence and Harriet Wheatly looked formidable at right half.
