Brace for Fitzpatrick as Lewes emphatically stop run of recent losses

FIXTURE: SLL Prem Div
HOME TEAM: Lewes Ladies 2s 2 (Fitzpatrick 2)
AWAY TEAM: Burgess Hill Ladies 1's 0

Lewes Ladies 2nd XI assembled ready for a match that they knew they had to get at least a point from in order to stop the run of losses and to stop them sinking further down the league.

They knew, also, that it was not going to be an easy game as they were up against fourth in the league Burgess Hill.

From very early in the game, Lewes showed their determination, breaking down the Burgess Hill attack and building some fantastic penetrating moves down the right hand side, with great performances from Ruth Walshe, Meg Hersey and Fi Tubb.

Frustratingly, the score was still 0-0 at half time, with Lewes having the greater number of chances, but the Burgess Hill keeper denying most of them. Despite the lack of goals, Lewes knew that they had the upper hand and were determined to capitalise on this.

The opening of the second half saw yet more pressure put on the Burgess Hill defence. Man of the Match, Kerry Fitzpatrick went on the offence right from the start, making sure that Burgess Hill hardly ventured out of their half. After several unsuccessful penalty corners, Lewes switched direction, finding Kerry Fitzpatrick in front of goal and determined to score; the goalkeeper didn’t stand a chance! After two such penalty corners, Lewes had the advantage and made certain that Burgess Hill were unable to get a consolation goal.

A fabulous performance from all of the team and a confidence builder ready for next week.
