Lewes no match for the Incredible Hulk

Lewes start strong but can’t maintain momentum

Lewes packed their hockey sticks, shin pads, buckets and spades and journeyed to face Crawley 2s away.

Lewes won the pushback and were keen to make an early impression but the first goal came for Crawley after an impressive drag flick from a short corner (1-0). Keen not to be outdone, Lewes strung together some impressive passages of play and put shots left and right before John Child eventually found the back board with an impressive shot off of a short corner (1-1). The score remained tied going into half time.

Both teams came out fighting after the half time break. Crawley scored first with another drag flicked short corner. This provided the motivation for more strong play by Lewes who soon won another short corner. The shot was saved and Casselden was there to mop up with a reverse sweep off the rebound for the second goal (2-2). Keen to keep the pressure up, Crawley continued to sling aerials the length of the pitch which were cooly dealt with by the defensive pairing of Cade and Forster. Crawley got a third from a well put together passage of play bettering the keeper. Lewes came right back with another short corner strike from John Child equalling the scores. In the dying minutes, Crawley were able to put another 2 goals past the Lewes keeper, both the result of a drag flick off of a short corner. The game ended 5-3 to Crawley.

Lewes put in a strong performance and left with their heads held high. Some really strong passages of play showed signs of a team coming together.
