A hard fought game sees Lewes come out on top.

On a blustery grey Saturday afternoon, Lewes hosted Worthing 4s for a later 4.30 pushback under the flood lights. The atmosphere was tense for this bottom of the table clash with both teams desperately needing to take 3 points home with them.

Lewes won the pushback and did not take long to start creating chances. Some strong play from a well drilled Lewes team saw multiple chances created early on using the left and right channels. After the experienced Lewes defence saw off a promising Worthing attack, Loader send a well placed through ball to Soudain who controlled the ball well and had only the keeper to beat. An elegant weave to beat the keeper combined with a slip left for Copplestone to tap in resulted in a well worked first Lewes goal, 1-0. Shortly after the whistle blew to signal the end of the first half.

The second half bought more excitement. It did not take Lewes long to flex their goal scoring muscles once more. A fantastic tackle from Roser at centre half started the attack, culminating in a pass into the D from Stillman expertly deflected by Soudain just inside the right post, 2-0. Soon after, a well worked passage of play down the middle meant Copplestone found the net once more for his second goal, 3-0. By this point Lewes were looking unstoppable but Worthing fought back. The Lewes defence stood firm but Worthing soon won 2 short corners in quick succession, resulting in 2 goals from 2 drag flicks, 3-2. At this point a determined Lewes team rallied together, unlucky not to score another goal after a scuffed attempt by Appleton. Some excellent tackles from the likes of Tilbury, Charlie Cooke and Coombs helped to keep Lewes ahead, as well as some exceptional goalkeeping by Bullmore. Finally the final whistle blew, a glorious 3-2 win for Lewes.

An all round excellent performance by Lewes resulted in a well earned win by a team whose hard work finally yielded a result. The team goes into Christmas having earned a chance to rest and regroup, ready for what is sure to be a challenging second half of the season.
