...in a strong but good natured encounter at the Southdown. The game was evenly matched with opportunities both ends. At the back Picken, Forster, and Cade were bolstered by Champness, Green and Youngman to make a formidable defence which looked capable of dealing with whatever Mid Sussex could throw at them, until midway through the first half when the hosts were caught off guard and conceded a well worked goal to go one nil down. Lewes responded quickly with Rory Jervis finally slotting home before half time and at the turn the honours were even.
After some wise words at half time and the inclusion of Lawrence da Souza, the match continued at a frantic pace and Lewes struck again with Rory Jervis who then completed his hat trick 10 minutes later. Fuller continued to baffle defenders and Stillman covered every inch on the pitch to create further opportunities and then scored along with Da Souza to make it 5. Credit to the visitors who worked on and were rewarded with a penalty corner in the dying moments and converted it to a goal despite initially being saved by Sharpe.
