Lewes gave Brighton an early Christmas present with a disappointing performance in their final match before Christmas. They squandered early chances and then let Brighton dictate the pace of the game and the hosts’ defence was opened up with ease. Brighton had experience with four ex first team players complemented by some good youngsters and were simply too good for Lewes. 4-0 down by half time they at least recovered some pride restricting Brighton to only two further goals.
Martyn Stillman worked tirelessly in midfield and goalkeeper Chris Sharpe helped restrict the scoreline but Lewes will have to start their league campaign after Christmas better to avoid getting dragged into the relegation zone.
