In an open match both sides will feel they did enough to win but neither could capitalise on the chances they created. Lewes took the lead when skipper Rob Heinzl's penalty corner strike took a deflection into the goal. The hosts’ defence was exposed to Southwick's fast forwards and they equalised from close range before half time.
In the second half Lewes dominated possession but could not convert their penalty corners and Southwick spurned breakaway chances. In overtime Lewes were indebted to goalkeeper Chris Sharpe who made a good save from a penalty corner.
