Following the protracted break the 3's presumably were just happy to be out and about on Saturday. The latest encounter an away trip to Beacon Community College. Just as before the break they were able to build a lead and then resist any opposition attacks running out 8-1 winners.
Taking the initiative from the start Lewes played their best hockey in a spell of 25 minutes in the first half. Tom Harvey opened the scoring following a reverse stick shot with a net busting finish from close range. Next up Will Heine converted a pin point reverse stick shot from the top of the D which gave the goalkeeper no chance. Before the half time whistle the away side managed to convert three additional short corners courtesy James Hay and with only a sporadic threat from the home side things were looking good.
With such a commanding 5-0 lead it was difficult to maintain the intensity throughout the 70 minutes. But in the second half open play goals from Charlie Cooke and Josh Randall and a further strike from Hay saw Lewes easily home, with Crowborough finally breaking their duck in the form of a consolation goal. As in the first half some of the transition play from back to front was fast and effective and set the team up for the most comprehensive win of the season so far.
Bigger challenges may await, and it was cold (who knew - November in England!!) but the 3's are racking up a few beers to be enjoyed once the Southdown club opens for business!
