On a wind and rain affected Saturday, the last before lockdown the home side were looking to bounce back after the away loss the week previous. Against newly promoted Crawley the team were aware and overcame the main threats that the away side carried.
In the first half Lewes mounted any number of attacks and created numerous short corner opportunities. First James Hay from a set piece and then Phil Middleton from open play appeared to have set the team on a path to an easy victory. However Crawley's main threat from a short corner resulted in a goal just before half time to leave the score at 2-1.
In the second half the 3's added to their goal tally with Hay completing a brace and John Child continuing his good form of last week.
In addition the defence increased their intensity to claim a clean sheet. Cutting down errors in the D meant that they weren't relying on the excellent goalkeeping of Stan Hughes as perhaps they had done in the first half. Jamie Coombs and Chris Picken were able to pick off any threats from Crawley and Lewes played out time comfortably.
The last game for a while - the team will be looking forward to playing again bearing in mind the excellent progress they have made this season.
