As the rain and wind swept across the pitch at Angmering the weather reflected the post match mood of the team. The 3's lead the game twice only to be pegged back by two soft goals, the score at half time being 2-2. John Child converted two short corners with direct strikes on the opponents goal and the team played most of the best hockey during the half. Any deficiencies in the away defence were shored up by Louis Soudain and upfront the returning Toby Izzard along with Charlie Cooke and Barnaby Heinzl caused numerous problems for the home side.
But the second half was a more fractured affair and despite having the better of the chances a well worked Worthing breakaway goal proved to be the difference between the sides.
A frustrating day at the office the team needs to retain the structure and game play especially when the going gets tough in the latter stages of any match. But there were many positives to this game and the return duel at the Southdown will be a belter. Roll on next week.
