"The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts" - T.E. Wealth
That Lewes returned from Horsham with a well earned point was down to a combination of structure and discipline the like of which the squad had not shown for some time. The free scoring home team were continually frustrated by a resolute, well organised defence and an attack that provided more penetration than the previous week. Still the away side were behind in the game three times and perhaps when Horsham took the lead 2-1 after half time the writing was on the wall. But an incisive short corner routine provided two well taken flicks (James Hay) and a penalty stroke conversion after a further infringement on the line. The last two goals in the game both occurred as the clock ran down. First a mistake in the Lewes defence allowed Horsham to convert an easy chance. But from the re start the 3's created a last gasp short corner that Hay rocketed into the top corner.
A very satisfying result and all who played deserved commendation for the way they went about their business. But special mention for Elliot Middleton who always provided a sound outlet for the defence. Elsewhere the central pairing of Phil Middleton and James Hay provided both the control and energy that set a platform for the team to work on. Sterling work by the defence was topped off by a number of fine saves courtesy Paul Wiles and upfront Josh Whitfield and Charlie Cooke complemented their attacking prowess and strong running by being that first line of defence. But just a reminder of the quote - thanks all
