An unusually warm February Saturday set the scene for the Mens 3’s to take on Saxons 3’s at the Southdown.
With a pre match objective of ball pace and passing accuracy Lewes hoped for a positive outcome from the game. Very early in the first half it was apparent that Saxons came hungry for 3 points and after a bouncing ball in the D Saxons edged a 1-0 lead.
Some real end to end play, with both teams demonstrating the crash ball tactic led to Lewes taking the chance of a wayward pass in the Saxons D for Daffyd Charles to level the scoring for the home team. 1-1 half time.
The second half continued in the same theme, Lewes struggled to find any on pitch charisma and as the minutes progressed both teams became eager for the game clinching goal. Some expert defending from the Lewes back row kept the 3’s out of danger with Stan Hughes, as ever, delivering when needed to keep the ball out the net. Neither team was able to convert a plethora of short corner chances in the dying minutes of the game. Final score 1-1.
Next week the 3’s face second in the table Brighton. A must win game to keep the promotion momentum alive.
MOM: Stan Hughes (again).
