Despite the implementation of late arrival fines - Callum Hill managed to break down on the M23 and had to be collected meaning preparation of 5 players was the run to the pitch- Lewes started the game on top and it wasn't long before they took the lead through an Ian Whiting drag flick. Callum Hill added a second before Ian Whiting rounded off the first half with a 3rd.
Lewes were a little nervous in the opening minutes of the second half but the back line of Sam Anderson, Pete Fuller, James Heaton and Tom Stratford stayed strong, with Stratford saving on the line to deny Crawley a life line.
Going forward Lewes were unplayable with the midfield of Whiting, Max Spedding, Josh Wenzel and Tom Hunt combining well with Oli Tapping, Joe Rideout and Callum Hill upfront. The goals started to flow as Whiting, Tapping, Daniels and Hill all scored. Coasting at 7-0 Crawley had a rare attack which resulted in a penalty stroke being awarded harshly against James Heaton and John Clayton. It was only a consolation for Crawley as Lewes added two more with Whiting scoring his 4th and Hill completing his hat trick.
The win puts the 2s up to 6th in the league with a mid table clash against Brighton 3s next week at home at 3pm.
