Lewes come out on top in local derby

Arriving at Eastbourne on Saturday 12th December, Lewes 2XI was met by the news that they might not have a keeper. Eastbourne 2XI was in the same position and with a few phone calls, a compromise was eventually reached. With only 15 minutes warm up time, neither teams felt extremely ready, but be that as it may the whistle blew and the game began.
Eastbourne had the push back, but shortly after with Lewes’ extreme energy from the offset, the ball was theirs. With the ball firmly staying in the Eastbourne half, it wasn't long before a shot into the D was picked up by Sam Murray who turned the keeper and placed the ball in the bottom corner; 1-0 Lewes!
Shortly after with Lewes’ defence staying strong, the ball was picked up by Peter Fuller. Aiming for a running-forward, the ball was hit and defected in the D by an Eastbourne player, an unfortunate own goal which concluded the first half 2-0 to Lewes.
Upon the start of the second half, Lewes was ready to play from the umpires start. The ball was passed quickly from Tom Clinch, to Sam Murray and finally, finding Peter Fuller with a slap deflection straight to the bottom right of the goal. Within a blink of an eye, the score was 3-0 lewes! Eastbourne seemed to have a second wind, with a burst of speed, passing and play. A rebound from a short fell nicely to an Eastbourne forward to be finished nicely, meaning 3-1.
With Eastbourne attacking another 3 times and some very close calls, Lewes managed to maintain the score. The penultimate goal came from Lewes winning a short corner, followed with a lightning strike from Seb Daniels to the bottom left corner, making the score 4-1 Lewes.
Not letting up, and maintaining possession in a final last effort, Lewes powered the ball round the back and up the right to Noah May. The ball came to him on a tight angle, but he still went for the strike and the ball rocketed into the left side netting.
After a long fight from both teams, the score finished 5-1 to Lewes, who were without a doubt the better team on the day.
