An in form Lewes Mens 2s traveled the short distance to an apparent out of form Brighton 4s who hadn’t won since early December. However, sometimes the form book doesn’t tell the whole story as a very strong Brighton team dominated a Lewes team that suffered a rare bad day.
A scrappy first half saw Lewes find no rhythm across the pitch and Brighton capitalise on a lucky break as the ball fell kindly to a Brighton forward for a 3-vs-2 simple goal. Lewes tried hard to sting some passes together and create chances but with little joy.
At half time Chewy reminded the men in green that our last trip to Brighton saw us beat Brighton 3s 5-2 after being 2-0 down but no come back was to materialise as our attack, midfield and defence couldn’t link up and a clinical Brighton won and put away a couple of short corners. 3-0 final score.
Despite the defeat, Lewes still showed a strong individual attitude with Oliver Amos, Mike Marchant, Oli Loader, Callum Boyland and Jamie Neill (to name a few) all giving everything. Next week sees the visit of Horsham 2s who sit 4th and 1 point behind Lewes.
