The awful weather didn’t dampen 2's unbeaten January

Lewes 2's went into this weeks game with a positive attitude stemming from the 13-0 thrashing of Worthing 3's the week prior. Despite the likes of Ali Hancorn, Sam Rea, Oli Amos, Joe Rideout and Harry Davenport missing, the awful weather and St Francis's far from stellar pitch; the team pulled through with thunderous vigour.

From the off the speed of the team was formidable with sterling play from the midfield of Oli Loader, Tom Clinch and Jamie Cooke, creating a barrage of shots and opportunities upon the inferior St Francis defence. However, goals in the first half seemed to be challenging until the team crowded the helpless Keeper and subsequently achieved a P-flick which was slotted in the bottom corner by Seb Daniels. Despite not scoring again in the half, the team went into break with high spirits and the few faults in our game were polished out to fuel the imminent second half onslaught.

Fairly early in the second half of Seb Daniels stormed into the D and converted the best goal of game with a blistering strike that, although being in the keepers mid-drift, was so powerful that it didn't matter. The team continued to then produce a plethora of shots on the keeper which came with its fair share of short-corners, one of those a left slip to Tom Harvey whose robust slap into the bottom right gave Lewes a 3-0 lead.

The play from the midfield and defence on Peter Thomas, Jamie Neill, Matthew Denham and Theo Whiting only got better resulting in more and more chances. The use of wide play, fantastic skill and tremendous passing was encapsulated in our final goal. The ball found itself near the top of the 25 with some wonderful one two play from Oli Loader and Tom Clinch that lead to another amazing strike into yet again the bottom right corner sealing a comprehensive 4-0.

Despite all the odds being against Lewes, the team pulled it out the bag and showed St Francis some of the best play, team work and effort on the season, especially by the youngsters of Jamie Cooke, Theo Whiting and Oli Loader.

This win completes an unbeaten January, 25 goals scored and only 2 conceded with the team upbeat and optimistic for the coming months.

MOTM:Tom Clinch because he asked for it but it should really go to Oli Loader.

Match report: Theo Whiting
