A brace of Goals from Hickman and Lloyd and a defensive MoM display from Alex Jellings gives Lewes 4-1 away win at second place Sevenoaks

Coming off the back of a Sussex cup semi- final win lewes looked to burn off the last of the pigs in blankets and extend their unbeaten run from October into the second half of the season.

On a blustery Saturday morning the men in green ventured to Holly Bush lane short on numbers with a bare eleven due to injury and illness looking to upset a skilful second placed Sevenoaks.

Despite the lack of numbers an experienced visiting side had a clear game plan and implemented this in the opening minutes of the game. Jonny Rea received a ball over the top and played in Hickman who finished neatly on the reverse to get Lewes off to the dream start.

Lewes knew that ball retention and game management was paramount and transferred the ball with confidence and pace, opening up the home sides defence. After some chances on the counterattack Lewes drew further ahead through a corner from Lloyd low into the right hand corner striking the post man on route.

The first half drew to a close with Lewes clearly dominating both the possession and the game. Lewes knew that Sevenoaks were sure to come out fighting and that the job was not yet complete.

As expected the home side came out full throttle looking to put pressure on the Lewes outlet but the visitors were unperturbed and stuck to their passages of play nearly finding outlets through their anchor Clarke and pacey forward line.

Lloyd converted a carbon copy corner to take the lead to 3-0 before an outstanding counter attack took them even further ahead with a long ball playing back to front from Waller through to Rea who selflessly played Hickman in for the pairs second well worked goal.

The visitors were feeling the affects of the lack of substitutes and knuckled down for some deep defence as the desperate home side threw everything at the last five to 10 minutes barraging the men in greens defence.

Keeper/Coach Andrew Isaacs made some crucial saves from close range before the home side grabbed a consolation goal on the whistle to prevent Lewes keeping a clean sheet.

Elated and with new found confidence Lewes continue their climbs up the table in a tightly contested and competitive league. They look to take this professional approach into next weeks fixture against tough tackling Old Bordenians where they will hope to continue this brilliant run of form.
