Lack of form for Lewes 1s

Lewes suffered their third consecutive defeat to slip to ninth in the league.

Again they could have few complaints, as a below par performance and poor defending saw them ship six goals in a heavy defeat.

Lewes were only one position behind Blackheath before the match but the gulf between the two sides was wider on the day. Lewes' injury problems have not helped and whilst you could not criticise their work rate and endeavour, too often they were caught out in defence and overrun in midfield. Whilst they created some chances throughout they were not able to convert these to influence the outcome.

Lewes conceded two early goals and only got back into the match when, after a period of pressure, Toby Price converted a well worked penalty corner. Blackheath had the league top goal scorer Chris Harden on form and he scored three goals before half time and created a fourth to leave them in control at half time 4-1.

Lewes struggled to get any sort of pattern to their play and despite holding Blackheath early in the second half conceded midway through. They responded when David Roberts scored from close range to make it 5-2 and had pressure late on but no clinical finishing as skipper Matt Clark created openings from midfield. Blackheath grabbed their sixth in the closing stages as Harden scored his fifth to leave the hosts wondering where the next points may come from. They will have to regroup again before the long trip to Bournemouth on Saturday.
