Lewes couldn't hang on despite scoring the opener

Lewes put on a disappointing display and were deservedly beaten by Trojans (to give them their first victory of the season). Lewes discovered during the week that two key players, striker Rory Jervis and Australian defender Grant Davey had both broken their thumbs in the Cup game against Jersey the previous weekend and will be out for a number of weeks. This disrupted Lewes's preparations and pattern of play.

The first half was even until midway through when James Fuller picked up the ball and skilfully dribbled past three defenders in the circle to score a superb individual goal to give Lewes the lead. Sadly this was the highlight of the afternoon for the hosts. Skipper Matt Clark led the side in midfield and defender Matt Rickson was strong in the tackle but too many stray passes saw moves break down and gave encouragement to Trojans that they could get something from the match.

The second half was no better. Trojans sensed Lewes' nerves and lack of experience in various positions and quickly equalised and the momentum changed. They took the lead from close range to make it 2-1 and with fifteen minutes left scored their third from a follow up from a penalty corner to leave Lewes well beaten.

Lewes will need to respond to this defeat on Saturday when they travel to West Hampstead.
