Wayfarers started quickly and within five minutes had penetrated the Lewes defence to open the scoring with a well taken goal. However Lewes responded quickly and a good attacking move saw Dave Roberts brought down as he was about to go for goal. The resulting penalty stroke tied the scores and this was the signal for Lewes to play with some authority. They put Wayfarers under a lot of pressure but could not finish in front of goal so the scores remained level at half time.
The second half started slowly for Lewes and Wayfarers were quick to seize on
the opportunities that were given to them. Two quick goals put them in control
and Lewes were not able to respond. Wayfarers put the seal on their victory with a goal in the closing minutes of the game.
Three games remain in this first half of the season, two of them at home. Lewes must take a minimum of six points from these otherwise they will become relegation favourites and it will become difficult to develop the confidence they are so badly lacking at the moment. On Saturday they are at home against Oxford University – 1.30 at the Southdown Sports Club.
