BARNES M1s 3 - LEWES M1s 2

It was not to be for Lewes as they lost narrowly in this last 16 tie after another long journey to west London.

Injuries and unavailability resulted in Lewes only having 12 players and the hosts who had a squad of 16 were able to rotate their squad and were fresher and quicker in the first half. Barnes scored two goals from penalty corners the first a rebound following a blocked shot on the line and the second with a shot coming back off the post and followed up and drilled into the goal. Lewes struggled to get any momentum in a disappointing first half.

In the second half Lewes began to create chances but the hosts made it 3-0 against the run of play after ten minutes. Only then did Lewes look dangerous and they got a foothold in the game when youngster Oli Loader was first to a rebound from a Matt Hickman strike to make it 3-1 and with ten minutes to go Lewes thought they had another goal back when Hickman pounced after a break but having given the goal the Umpire reversed his decision to frustrate Lewes. They did finally get their second goal in injury time when Alex Lloyd converged a penalty corner but it was too late.
