The Mens 5s had not Alot to lose as they headed to Eastbourne for their final game of the season.
Results of late have been Gettin' better for the 5s and early Signs of The game were positive when inside the first 5mins they were ahead when Alan pounced on the loose ball in the D and scooped the ball into the corner. Eastbourne were not Miles away from finding a goal of their own but Lady luck was on the visitors side. Lewes were Makin' magic with their PCs and converted 2 before the half was out, first Joe followed in his injection to deflect David's pass into the goal before Tom made it 3-0 with a well taken finish. So a three goal lead for Lewes without getting out of their Comfort zone.
Eastbourne made some Changes knowing they had Time still to get back into the game and their quick short passing was causing trouble and got the first goal back within 5 mins, Lewes tried to Hang tough but Eastbourne kept coming and converted 2 PCs of their own to tie the game 3-3 and looked like they could go on and win the game to avoid finishing the season Rock bottom of Div 3. Some physical play in the middle and a dangerous foul led to tempers boiling over and captain James receiving a green card for The first time for his chat back, although to be fair he might of been taking the fall for someone else's less than complimentary language.
With Eastbourne on top it looked like the 5s would do well to hold on to a point as the visitors struggled to maintain possession. But into the final few minutes Lewes needed a Last action hero, step forward Sandy who firstly restored the lead after being found by Rupert and then after some good skill to beat a defender outside the D saw his shot saved by the keeper only for Reza to follow in to make the 3pts safe.
So now the Party's over no more Song and emotion until the next season starts in September.
Season review -
The mission- avoid a Rise and fall of fortunes and maintain their place in Div 3 after winning promotion last season.
A strong start with an impressive opening day win away to Horsham and come from behind victory over Hailsham from the first 3 games, by the end of November the 5s were comfortably mid table with 4 wins and 5 losses.
Unfortunately with a string of injuries and general unavailability the 5s struggled and with just 1pt in the next 8 games but they knew they Can't stop and always Try hard no matter the The way it is.
James Hall took over the captaincy in early February and with the return of David and Sandy from long injury layoffs led the 5s to a strong finish with 3 wins and 1 draw from the final 5 games meaning they were safe from relegation with 2 games remaining.
So overall not a bad return to Div 3 a bit of a rollercoaster of a season, good development of our youngsters JC, Ashley, Felix and Noah certainly one of the positives and the fact the team stayed together thru some challenging times another.
Social or competitive hockey Call it what you want it's our Paradise.
Back Into the now the 5s have finished the season in 8th place with 7 wins 2 draws 13 losses.
Thank you to all the clubs volunteers whose tireless work allows us to play every week especially our club umpires who often have the difficult task of keeping us in check.
