Starting off their campaign in the Sussex Premier League this season with a fixture v Horsham Ladies 3's...

the Lewes Ladies 2's started the season in fine fashion with a solid 6-2 home win.

The first half was a little cagey to start with, but Lewes quickly started to control possession and half way through the first half they earned a number of shorts in quick succession as a reward for some great mid-field play by Rosie Youngman, Jess Wycherley and Ruth Walsh, who combined beautifully with Amy Boyse, Phoebe Rivet and Katinka Morris playing up-front.

They posed lots of problems for the resolute Horsham defence and the first 3 shorts were well saved by their goal-keeper, with Gabby Rudrum firing 2 shots on target and another from a well-crafted move which slipped the ball to Amy Boyse, who just missed the goal to the left. Although Lewes were dominant, Horsham still managed several forays in to the Lewes D, one of which earned them a short, which they converted against the run of play for a surprise 1 - 0 lead. This led to Lewes launching wave after wave of attacks and more shorts we awarded. This time the ball again went to Rudrum, who faked a shot and slipped the ball left to Boyse who slotted home the equaliser. With Phoebe Rivet's dad watching on, he immediately blew his horn signalling the familiar sound of Lewes Ladies 2's scoring their first of the season.

Soon another short was earned after the re-start and Rudrum again slipped the ball to Boyse, who wasted no time slotting her second. Toot, toot! With Lewes firing in another goal just before half time, when Phoebe Rivet found the net after some great play in mid-field, the horn went truly mad, toot, toot, toot!!! The 3-1 half-time scoreline fairly reflected the play in the first half with Lewes dominating possession and 80% of the play in the Horsham half.

The second half started with Horsham fighting hard to stay in the match. With Lewes a player down after a green card was awarded, it did allow Horsham to counter if they could get possession of the ball and 10 mins in to the half Horsham managed to get a goal back and narrow the scoreline to 3-2. They now thought they were in with a shout, but Lewes played some great hockey to earn another short, which was again well-worked and converted by Phoebe Rivet for her second of the match and which closed the door on the Horsham team.

Lewes then scored two more to seal the win. First a lovely move in open play resulted in Amy Boyse claiming her hat-trick goal, and the in the last minute of the match Lewes earned what was their 12th short, which was also converted by Boyse for her fourth goal. With Laura and Gill Miles-Lewis teaming up well with Innei Shum and Gabby Rudrum, in defence, not much got past them to bother Emma Fuller, who was stand-in goal-keeper this week. Emma made some great saves and looked as comfortable in goal as she does playing up front.

Katinka Morris had a splendid debut, and was unlucky not to add to the scoreline, and Jess Wycherley whose mazy runs and well-timed passes caused huge problems for the Horsham defence time and time again. Hugs and jugs all-round. Amy for her 4 goals & French girl for her 2 goal jug-avoidance. Team: Emma Fuller (GK), Laura Miles-Lewis, Gill Miles-Lewis, Innei Shum, Gabby Rudrum, Ruth Walsh, Rosie Youngman, Jess Wycherley, Phoebe Rivet (2 goals), Katinka Morris, Amy Boyse (Captain)(4 goals).
