At Lewes Hockey Club, we believe hockey
is about much more than the game itself.
It’s about being part of a welcoming,
inclusive and family-friendly community where everyone feels at home.
From the moment you walk through the doors of The Southdown club, our fantastic clubhouse, we want you to feel like you belong. Whether you’re an experienced league player, someone picking up a stick for the first time, or looking for a fun and supportive club for your family, you’ll find a place here. Alongside competitive league hockey, we offer coaching, social hockey and a varied calendar of social events, with opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.

We are proud to field six men’s teams, five women’s teams and a mixed team. We are always excited to welcome new members, finding them a place in one of these teams. Our teams compete across a range of leagues, from South East Division 1 to South East Martlets Division 4. While we all enjoy competing and aim to perform at our best - pushing for promotion where possible - we never lose sight of what matters most: enjoying our hockey, supporting one another and ensuring every player feels valued as part of both their team and the wider club.

Our thriving junior section is at the heart of the club. We have opportunities for players from Under 8 through to Under 16, with younger groups training and enjoying festivals on Sundays, while our Under 14 and Under 16 teams compete in Sussex competitions on Saturdays and the England Hockey Leagues on Sundays. We want every young player to develop a lifelong love of hockey while building their confidence, skills and enjoyment of the game. Our player pathway supports juniors as they progress through the age groups and, when they’re ready, into adult hockey.

One of the things that makes Lewes Hockey club special is the atmosphere. With excellent facilities right beside our Astro pitch, it’s easy to spend the whole day at the club. After the final whistle (and a well-earned shower!), players and supporters head into the clubhouse to enjoy post-match teas, catch up over a drink, (talk through goals scored!) and then wander out to cheer on the other teams. The caged area next to the pitch is often full of families, with children safely riding bikes, practicing their hockey skills , having picnics or simply having fun while the matches continue.

Members can also choose a combined membership with The Southdown club, giving access to additional facilities including tennis, squash and the gym, making it a fantastic place to stay active all year round.
