This local derby match was always going to be a closely fought match with both teams determined to reach the Quarter Final round of this National Competition. Brighton attacked confidently from the starting whistle and put Lewes on the back foot. Thanks to some outstanding defensive work from the entire Lewes team, Brighton were denied a goal. Brighton had several penalty corners which were successfully defended. Lewes settled into the match and started to put the pressure on Brighton’s defence. Some fantastic sequences of passing resulted in a few narrowly missed goals from Lewes’ tireless forwards. The second half of the match stared goalless, but before long, Lewes were awarded a short corner which was spectacularly struck into the goal by Kerry Fitzpatrick. Brighton came back fighting and were unrelenting in their attack. However, outstanding defensive performances from Sarah Hall and goalkeeper Carys Jukes, helped to keep the Brighton goals out. Following a tense second half and an excellent performance by the whole Lewes team, the final score stayed at 1-0 to Lewes, who will now travel to London to play in the Quarter Finals of this National Competition.
