East Grinstead badgers 1 Lewes Lionesses 5 (Wycherley J (3), Beauchamp A, Bailes)

Lewes Lionesses, with the league trophy gleaming from last week’s win, had one act left to perform...to beat East Grinstead on their patch! With two late dropouts Lewes had a total of four main players out and yet such is the talent in the ranks these days due to Lewes's superb mini hockey and Tuesday night junior training that Lewes romped home for their coup de grace with able replacements.

East Grinstead were a strong physical team and yet in the second minute Jess Wycherley steamed down the right wing for the usual Antonia Beauchamp far post finish. But then E G came back and Lewes had 20 minutes of pressure and missed a couple of passes and challenges and EG equalised. From then on it was Lewes's game with Wycherley scoring the first of her hat trick with a direct 40 yard run and finish. The other two were short corner strikes of which she scored 15 of her 26 season goals. An extraordinary strike from Ellen Bailes provided the last hurrah!
