Down, Down, Down with South Downs
Ladies 4s Lose 2-4 against South Downs Ladies 1
FIXTURE: SLL Div 2
HOME TEAM: South Downs Ladies 1 4
AWAY TEAM: Lewes Ladies 4s 2 (Richards 2)
Lewes Ladies 4s thought they had bucked their Status Quo losing streak on Saturday when they went 2-0 up in just three minutes against South Downs Ladies 1s.
The first goal came after Flooz’s strike from a penalty corner was deflected in off Zoe Richards’s well placed stick for the first.
A minute later Lewes were awarded a Penalty Stroke and Richards placed the ball down the left side of the keeper to give the 4s a brace. After this initial excitement, South Downs came back with two goals in the first half and it stayed 2-2 until half time.
There was no need for our down jackets in the break unlike the week before in the snow, although Betty the mascot made good use of a down jacket on the sidelines.
The second half went down as expected – a third from South Downs sending Lewes plummeting down to division 3.
Still, there’s no point being down about it – we have to put it down to experience. We were down on our luck and we took it down to the wire and we are down and out for next season! Off for a good cool down and strip down; we need to knuckle down for next year and throw down the gauntlet to the other teams!
Still, I don’t want to get bogged down - we lost and are going down. Like a lead balloon down the pan….etc….
