The ladies beat Newent 2-0 to progress to the next round.

After a successful win on Saturday against Horsham Ladies 2s, Lewes had a long journey to Newent HC to play the 2nd round of the EHA.

As the match began, a fresh looking Newent took advantage of Lewes and broke quickly into the Lewes D. However goal keeper Carla Leach calmly took care of their attacking efforts. Lewes then woke up and produced multiple attacking short corner opportunities which they narrowly missed. Lewes persisted, with central mid fielder Marie Spence moving the ball around the pitch like a pro. Transferring from left to right Lewes looked for a gap. Then Kerry Fitzpatrick found Anna Hilton in the Newent D who took the ball onto her reverse stick and slotted a backhand shot passed the keeper and into the goal. Lewes kept battering the Newent defence from every side but the home team tightened up and didn't let Lewes through.

As the second half began Lewes wanted more goals to make the journey worthwhile. Forward Lisa Morrison showed some beautiful stick skills in the Newent D only to be fouled by the opposition. Lewes were award a short corner and skipper Sarah Hall blasted the ball straight past the keeper and onto the backboard. Lewes then ran out the rest of the clock taking the 2-0 victory and progressing to the quarter finals of the EHA trophy. The next round is on Sunday 21st February away at Teddington.
