Ladies 1s Win 3-0 against Tulse Hill and Dulwich Ladies 2s
Lewes dominate first league match of 2018
FIXTURE: South Div 3B
HOME TEAM: Lewes Ladies 1s 3 (Baron, Molloy, Spence)
AWAY TEAM: Tulse Hill and Dulwich Ladies 2s 0
It was the first league fixture back for Lewes Ladies 1s post Christmas, playing against a very strong Tulse Hill and Dulwich who they had lost 5-1 to at the start of the season. Lewes had put in a solid performance the week before in a Sussex cup match so were still riding high after that victory.
As the game began Lewes kept the same form they had the previous week in their cup fixture, pressing the opposition, closing them down quickly and transferring the ball all across the pitch finding the space.
This cool, calm and composed hockey saw Laura Molloy receive the ball in the Tulse Hill defensive D and slip the ball past their keeper, giving Lewes an early lead in the first half. Lewes maintained this pressure, winning a penalty corner during which captain Sarah Hall picked up a rebounded ball off the keeper's pads but narrowly missed hitting the post.
Lewes were really enjoying themselves, playing some fantastic hockey all over the pitch.
As the second half begin Amelia Baron received the ball just on the Tulse Hill 25 yard line, with an explosion of speed Baron beat two defenders and then fooled the keeper and blasted the ball past her, scoring Lewes's second goal of the game.
The connecting play continued from the team, particularly from Libby Youngman and Emma Pavitt in midfield who worked together to win a penalty corner for Lewes. A slightly misguided injection ensured that stick stopper Marie Spence had her chance in front of the keeper and she did not miss: she slotted the third goal past the keeper, giving Lewes a nice comfortable 3-0 lead and 3 points!
Next week Lewes take on Worthing Ladies 1s away at 2.45pm
