Lewes Ladies 1s Lose 0-2 against Wimbledon Ladies 2s
Lewes rue missed first half chances as Wimbledon make most of bigger squad
FIXTURE: South Div 3B
HOME TEAM: Wimbledon Ladies 2s 2
AWAY TEAM: Lewes Ladies 1s 0
It was a chilly day and Lewes Ladies 1s arrived to an equally frosty reception, a locked changing room and no key.
After a frustrating time pre-match Lewes started with intensity, putting Wimbledon under pressure in all areas of the pitch. A few early chances went begging for the Lewes forwards and Lewes were made to pay later on in the first half.
The marking for Lewes, which had been excellent, slipped and failed to breakdown a Wimbledon attack and the ball was put in the back of the net.
With a one goal deficit to make up, Lewes pushed on in the second half and fought and thought they’d broken though with a pacy move which saw Malloy at the back post with a cool finish only to have the goal disallowed, the umpire ruling that the Wimbledon defender in the goal had stopped the ball crossing the line.
Unfortunately with some further poor decisions the Lewes fight slowly lost momentum and playing a much bigger squad began to take its toll, even some excellent goalkeeping from Robyn couldn’t prevent a second goal for Wimbledon. Final score 2-0
