Lewes Men's 3s crash out of cup
Despite defeat, the young squad offer lots of promise for the future
Match report by Ryan Moore
After a big win in the first round of the cup Lewes travelled away for a difficult test away at Chichester. The team travelled with a lot of new and eager faces ready to meet the challenge ahead.
The home team came at us strong from the start and despite strong defensive play from Eddie Casselden and Steve Loader, Chichester won an early short corner which was powerfully put past keeper Jon Cornish despite his diving the right way getting a glove to it.
The first half consisted of more of the same with Lewes struggling to break into the opposing D. A few chances were created with good play from forwards Jago and Sam Newman but ultimately our opponents continued to capitalise on Lewes mistakes making the score 4-0 at the half.
After some choice words across the team, the second half opened up for us and with midfielders Oli L, Tom C and Ryan S managing to find the wide players Fred, Ryan M and Jago. Lewes started to find the way in behind the Chichester defence and cause some trouble with Fred and Ryan M both missing good chances.
After a long stoppage resulting from Eddie attempting a headed clearance in the D, the game got a little more heated with both teams going harder into tackles and trying to get that next goal which at this point could have come from either side. Unfortunately for Lewes it came from the home side just before the heavens opened.
With the final score at 5-0 the Lewes cup run came to an abrupt end, but with a promising young squad we can take away a lot of positives and oppurtunities for improvement into the start of the league season.
