Yet again Lewes rued their lack of a goal hungry centre forward as time after time good scoring opportunities were wasted.

In the first half Lewes dominated the game but were unable to convert the pressure into either open play or set piece goals. At least this week Lewes earned themselves penalty corner opportunities and had two attempts on the Staines goal with one shot going wide and the other being saved. Late in the half the Lewes defence were caught out of position but luck was on their side and Staines missed an open goal.

After the changeover Staines started to play better and took advantage of the frustration that was creeping into the Lewes game. Within five minutes of the re-start Staines attacked down the left and found a gap in the Lewes defence to open the scoring. Lewes reacted in a positive way but, in spite of the tireless efforts in mid-field of Matt Clark and good attacking work by Gaston Golstein and Chris Spruce, were unable to beat the opposition keeper. After fifteen minutes Staines successfully defended a penalty corner and launched a counter attack down the right. A gap in the defence gave them access to the Lewes goal which they used to increase their lead. With five minutes left a Lewes attack produced a penalty corner and, whilst the shot was saved, the after-play gave Spruce the opportunity to slip the ball past the opposition keeper. Lewes then frantically struggled to get the equaliser but their efforts were in vain.

On Saturday Lewes are away to Sutton Valence.
