Sussex U16 County Cup Final Lewes 7 (Heinzl 3, Firth 2, Bage, Stonely) Eastbourne 6

Lewes U16 clinched the Sussex Cup with a Sam Heinzl goal in the dying seconds of this scintillating cup final. Playing against a very strong and evenly matched Eastbourne side Ed Firth opened the scoring for Lewes following a number of quick passes that split open the Eastbourne defence. Eastbourne rallied and scored 3 goals to put them in a commanding position after 25 minutes. Captain Joe Rideout playing his last game for the U16 inspired his side with quick and accurate distribution releasing Sam Heinzl who hit a powerful shot into the top corner. Turning round at 2-3 Lewes felt they were back in the game. Eastbourne started the second half strongly and despite heroic goalkeeping from Jonathan Cornish Eastbourne scored 2 further goals leading 5-2 with 10 minutes to play. Instead of letting their heads drop Lewes responded with incredible determination and effort. Jack Troake, Sam Heinzl and Ed Firth provide the inspiration and the younger members of the team responded with some outstanding team hockey. Archie Sherwood crossed powerfully from the right and Adam Stonely expertly slotted home. Lewes won a several short corners one expertly dispatched by Sam Heinzl and Jack Bage followed up to tuck home another to bring the scores level at 5-5. With less than 5 minutes Eastbourne scored to put them 1 goal in the lead. Lewes responded again with a telling pass from Sam worledge releasing Ed Firth who made no mistake from the Top of the D. Lewes were on fire and with Harry Davenport breaking up another Eastbourne attack the ball was moved to Stan Chalmers who laid of the perfect pass for man of the match Sam Heinzl to smash into the bottom corner. With no time to re-start the game Lewes celebrated a thrilling 7-6 win.
