The Under 10s Boys team won all the games in their tournament and were overall winners for their age group; the under 10 girls were runners up in their tournament. Both will go through to the regionals later this year..

The club’s other two “cup teams” – the Under 12 boys and the Under 12 girls – came up against stronger opposition and lost the majority of their games.

Lewes also fielded five development teams in the vase competition at the tournament. All the Lewes players showed how much their hockey had improved this year.

David Mansell, chairman of the junior section at Lewes Hockey Club, said Lewes was one of only two clubs which entered every competition.

David said: “We couldn’t be prouder of all our teams and are very grateful for all our coaches and volunteers who made this happen. It is lovely to see so many children enjoying their hockey and progressing through the season.”

Cup Side

Lewes Girls U10 team put on an amazing display, making it all the way to the final, losing to East Grinstead. They showed real determination and skilful play. Well done girls!

UNDER 10 Girls Vase Sides

Two Lewes girls U10s teams entered the Sussex In2Hockey Vase competition and enjoyed a great but chilly afternoon. Both teams came third in their pool stages, winning, losing and drawing games but smiling all they way through them.

UNDER 10s BOYS

UNDER 10 Boys Vase Side
Our development team played 5 very tight matches in their group, predominantly against club first teams. Although they only won one game, they played some fantastic hockey and a number of matches could easily have gone their way.
Throughout all the matches we saw some excellent defending and some great passing from the boys and with a little bit more luck they could have won a few more games.
The core of the team will be able to play U10s again next year; which bodes very well for the future.

UNDER 10 Boys Cup Side

The Cup team played some very stylish hockey up front and looked incredibly solid at the back. They won their group, with some impressive passing and really, very accomplished goals. Their semi final was against Eastbourne who they beat 2-0. They met East Grinstead for the final where the boys won 1-0!
In the end, no goals conceded (in fact, believe Sam in goal only touched the ball twice- although important touches they were!) and 11 goals scored!

Great day for the U10s. Coaches couldn’t be prouder of both teams and grateful for the fab support from the touchlines!!

UNDER 12s BOYS

Even though it was a challenging morning for our U12 boys sides in both the In2hockey Cup and Vase, they held together well as teams and produced some really positive passages of play in defence and attack.

Cup Team
In the Cup we played together particularly well in the first game verses Mid Sussex, with some excellent wide passes and good chances on goal that didn't quite go in, as well some stout defence when asked, 0-0 the score. Unfortunately in the next two games we were undone by some very quick thinking and skilled attacking that came forward in numbers at speed creating overlaps that our midfield and defence could not quite keep up with, leaving Sam Harrop exposed in goal. Even though we lost both heavily we still managed to keep our heads up and create the odd passing move that could so easily have ended in a goal, only to go wide a couple of times on the break. Importantly we've improved as a group since our last tournament.

Vase Team

On the Highfields pitch the Vase team grew in each and every game as a team with some invaluable match experience. In their first game they were given a cold tournament welcome with Brighton scoring immediately from the push back and losing 0-4. But they improved in each match stringing passes and runs together, and tackling well in defence. The last game was really close against East Grinstead. Chances were made, but that elusive goal did not quite come and they eventually lost narrowly 0-1. Well done though for a great display of energy, effort and team work all round, and a big thanks to Angus Blackaller for being our goalie.

UNDER 12s GIRLS

Under 12 Girls Cup Side

The Under 12 Girls Cup Side played six games, winning one, drawing two and losing three. On a different day it could have been a different story, with Lewes only being convincingly beaten once – in their 3-0 defeat by Brighton.
In sections of all the other matches, the team played at its free-flowing best, with the defence, midfield and forwards linking beautifully. In particular, during the 3-0 win over Horsham, everything clicked with the team using the whole pitch and playing lovely team hockey.
At other times, however, the team struggled to find their rhythm and allowed opposition teams to put them under pressure.
But throughout the tournament the girls showed a hearty resilience and enthusiasm; they never let their heads drop or stopped supporting and encouraging each other.

Sunshine all over for our U12 Girls Vase Team. From the warming-up till the end we were improving and becoming a real top team on our way to beat the Cup Team. Great goalie work from Rosie and first timer Amelie. Fantastic solid defence from Florence and Hazel. Eloise is developing into a real Centre Mid, with a great future ahead of her.
Great attacks from Meghan and Amelie as Centre Forwards, with Meghan scoring a goal. Super running, professional subbing and steady positioning on the flanks from Phoebe, Cleo, Anna, Rosie and Amelie. We braved a pair of too small shoes, a start when we were not even properly on the pitch, a very challenging substitution situation from one of our opponents and lots more. And most importantly we had a lot of fun. We are ready for our next challenge!
