The top 3 sides were cup action on both Saturday and Sunday, it was a weekend of mixed results!

1st team

Lewes' First Round cup match was always going to be a task of epic proportions; a David vs Goliath battle, where Goliath decided to cut to the chase and inflict a brutal punishment from minute one.

Holcombe really are a giant sitting in the National conference leagues, a side littered with international caps and honours, produced a confident, clinical and quite frankly relentless performance against a Lewes side that could still take away many positive points, despite the scoreline.

Barry Middleton, Great Britain Captain scored the first of 7 Holcombe goals within the 35minutes, leaving Lewes eagerly anticipating the half time whistle.

Lewes really improved their performance in the second half, but for a few unfortunate penalty strokes and a couple of 3rd phase finishes, Lewes put on a much better defensive display. They were rewarded with 2 minutes to play when Jimmy Fuller accelerated around through the Holcombe defence before deftly lobbing the keeper that went to ground. The score finished 12-1.

Lewes face Havant away in their first league match this Saturday.

2nd team

The 2's were knocked out the Sussex Cup by East Grinstead with a frustrating, but encouraging 3-1 defeat. The 2nd xi put on a hard working display, however lacked the cutting edge to put the game to bed. Lewes went 1-0 up early on with a goal from Seb Daniels, and throughout showed great work ethic. East Grinstead showed why they are such a highly regarded 2nd xi and with some well-worked short corner routines, turned the game on it's head, progressing through to the next round.

Lewes 2's face Crawley at home this weekend.

3rd xi

The 3's, defending Sussex cup champions, marched on to the next round of the cup, with a comfortable 3-0 victory against a physical and experienced Worthing side. It's a great result that will give plenty of confidence to the 3rd team, ahead of their first league match away to Hailsham this weekend.
